WHAT TO SEE

With mountains and plenty of water, Calabritto is an ideal destination for people who want to spend time away from everyday stress, getting back into physical and mental shape in a harmonious and relaxing atmosphere. It’s an oasis of pleasure and tranquility.

You should not miss the hamlet of Quaglietta.

The Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Snow ( Santuario Madonna della Neve) is a deep, spiritual place situated on a spacious natural terrace of about 800 metres in height, from where it dominates the valley with the Sele passing through. A common element of the past and present is the celebration of Our Lady of the Snow on August 5, the day when, according to a legend, the Blessed Virgin caused it to snow there where the sanctuary is now standing.

Adjoining the sanctuary is a rustic structure, once a convent, now a retreat and place of comfort for whoever wants to contemplate the natural marvels of Sele’s Valley.

The Church of Our Lady of Grienzi (Santa Maria di Grienzi), is a typical little church located about 6 km from the town centre at the foot of a rocky crag. It is a tranquil and soul- stirring place that brings to mind the simple life of that once was. The feast of Our Lady is celebrated on July 4 by the locals.

The Church and Grotto of Our Lady of The River ( Chiesa e grotta della Madonna del Fiume) is in mountainous zone adjacent to Mt. Cervialto. It is an enchanting place where there is still formation of the limy blanket that stalactites are formed from. Inside the grotto there is a little church dedicated to Our Lady of the River. According to a local belief of pagan origin, if an expectant mother drinks the water dripping from a particular stalactite shaped like a breast, she will have plenty of milk.
